Day 162 ❤️ Today, June 12, is Anne Frank's birthday, and there are two quotes from her today.

I was very young when I first read The Diary of a Young Girl and it affected me greatly. It's beautiful and heartbreaking and inspiring all at once. Her writing is luminous.

Anne would have been 96 today. She died in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945 at the age of 15. I often wonder what Anne would have written, had she lived.

It's thrilling to see this book shared with a global audience. The different titles and cover artwork are fascinating and designed to appeal to their unique markets, and I’ll share each as it comes out this summer and fall.

In this case, the title, “La maison aux nouveau-nés” translates into “The house for newborns.“

Résumé :

Dans un paisible village allemand, la vie d'Allina est idyllique : elle travaille dans une librairie et passe ses week-ends avec ses amis. Mais en 1938, tout change car Allina est juive. Une nuit, des membres du parti nazi font irruption et assassinent sa famille sous ses yeux.

La jeune femme échappe de justesse à la mort, mais ce n'est que le début d'un cauchemar. Elle est violée par un officier SS et conduite dans un Lebensborn, un lieu où l’on force les femmes à procréer avant de confier les bébés à de bonnes familles allemandes.

Impuissante, Allina est témoin du terrible sort que l’on réserve à certains nouveau-nés. Cependant lorsqu’elle rencontre Karl, un officier allemand qui dissimule bien des secrets, une lueur d’espoir s’allume dans ce monde d’une infinie noirceur : peut-être a-t-elle trouvé un allié prêt à l’aider à sauver ces enfants…

Même au coeur du mal, elle choisit le bien.

This beautiful and compelling cover is for the Czech translation of The Sunflower House.

Thrilled and grateful to publishers who are sharing this book with their audiences. I find the different titles and cover artwork fascinating, as each is designed to appeal to their unique markets. Will be sharing more covers as each book is released this summer and fall.

In this case, the title, “Domov Hochland,” is Hochland Home, and the subtitle, “Továrna na děti,” translates into “factory for children,” or “children's factory.”

Domov Hochland přináší příběh Alliny Strauss, mladé ženy, která jedné osudné noci, poté co ztratila všechny, které milovala, je donucena pracovat jako ošetřovatelka ve státní továrně na děti zvané domov Hochland. Tam se stává svědkem i účastnicí hrůz bezohledného eugenického programu Heinricha Himmlera, známého jako program Lebensborn. Ženy „čisté“ krve zůstávaly v těchto domovech s jediným cílem. Zachovat árijskou populaci – a rodily tisíce dětí, které byly adoptovány „dobrými“ nacistickými rodinami.

Allina musí skrývat svou židovskou identitu a zároveň čelit nelidským praktikám programu, který proměňuje děti v pouhé nástroje ideologie. Zároveň však nachází spojence v Karlovi, důstojníkovi SS s vlastními tajemstvími, a společně riskují vše, aby zachránili nevinné životy.

Je to příběh o odvaze, mateřské lásce a nezdolné síle lidského ducha.

A bit of a photo dump 😜 of a local place in Chandler that got me out of the desert mindscape yesterday.

The Lavender Farm at Chateau de Vie reminds me a bit of the old houses in the Hudson Valley. It operates as a lavender farm, and offers tours of the chateau, classes, and an incredible gift shop. If you love lavender it's a great place to pick up soap, lotion, tea, body wash, and just about anything lavender-related. Plenty of variations on the theme - lavender vanilla is my favorite, but they offer citrus and rose and other lovely scented things!
